The Charleston Community Band, now in its twenty-eighth year of operation, is an entirely volunteer, non-profit civic organization serving the Trident area. It provides an opportunity for adults to perform concert band music after completing their school years. We are conducted by Mr. John Spitler, currently the band director at Moultrie Middle School. The Assistant Conductor is Mr. Jeff Hooven .

Membership in the Charleston Community Band is open to proficient brass, woodwind and percussion players beyond high school, and under our mentorship program, to younger musicians. Our mentorship program is part of our commitment to music education, and is open to high school musicians by audition.

The band is composed of 75 players from all walks of life who live and work throughout the tri-county area (Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester counties). We have a number of part-time professional musicians, but most of our members would best be described as dedicated amateurs who enjoy playing good music.

The band plays, on average, fifteen concerts annually for varied audiences and community occasions. Because all concerts are free to the public, we depend on honoraria and donations to cover basic expenses.

The Charleston Community Band's concert calendar is available by calling the Community Bulletin Board at 884-2278. Our calendar of events is available under entry 2263, and for members of the band, entry 2264 provides information on performances, rehearsals, schedule changes, etc.
