Instructions

You will first be greeted with a simple interactive map of the tri-county area.

Clicking upon the "Tri-County Region" button will open a series of 3 images of the entire Charleston, Berkeley, Dorchester tri-county region. These images have a 1994 Thematic Mapper (TM) satellite scene as the background, with the Interstate and US Highways shown in black.

The series progresses to show the 1973 urban area, the 1994 urban area, and then the projected 2030 urban area, given current development patterns. Urban area appears over the TM scene as a deep red color.

As you move the cursor around on the first interactive map, you will see that there are 6 labeled regions where the cursor turns into a pointing hand. Clicking on any of these areas will open a series of 3 images focusing more closely on your region of choice. The sub-region images show the SC highways in blue, in addition to the Interstate and US Highways.

The last option is the "Farmlands" button. Clicking on this button will display a second simple interactive map of the tri-county area, from which there are two choices. Clicking in either of the interactive regions will open a series of 3 images showing the farmlands and the progression of urban growth in that region. In these series, the growth from 1994 to 2030 is displayed as orange-yellow. A "Back to Overview" button will return you to the "Farming" overview map. Finally, clicking the blue return button on the "Farming" overview map will return you to the initial map.

Clicking the "Instructions" button at any time will return you to this page,

Clicking the "First Slide" button at the bottom of any of the urban growth series pages will return you to the initial interactive overview map, and

Clicking the "Home" button at any time will return you to the Greenbelt home page.
